I’d seen some reasonable properties in Issoudun and wanted to take a look, so this was one of my targets for exploring from Vierzon. You can see it has a few lovely monuments and its iconic tower. I was here on a cold, gray, sometimes drizzling afternoon, so I didn’t even hike all over town, but stayed in the center, and of course went for a warming lunch and glass of wine. Or perhaps it was two.
This is a rough season for making a judgment on a town, but I did specifically want to know what places are like in winter, since I’m looking for a year-round home. Issoudun was just okay; I won’t search for properties there. It’s pleasant enough, but didn’t generate any enthusiasm. The tourist office was closed as were a number of restaurants (mid-week), and I didn’t see signs of shows or events or even upcoming markets, so my conclusion was that the other towns in this region are better choices.
